Getting ready for CSTI...
Pre-CSTI thoughts from a Board Member
So, I'm really looking forward to this weekend.
The weather is HOT. The nation and our region is set for fundamental political change. And it all comes together at CSTI. For me, CSTI is a chance to learn, connect and celebrate. With the election of the first African American president in our history, we have much to celebrate.
But we also have much great work in our region to highlight. A new initiative, Central WA Progress based in Yakima, WA, decided to take on a recent school bond campaign. The district had not passed one for 18 years. So, CWP's organizer, EJ Juarez, headed an effort to recruit over a hundreds high school volunteers, contacted thousands of voters - both in English and Spanish - and won by an astounding margin - 70% to 30%!
This is the type of work that CSTI fosters.
So, I look forward to jumping on that train to Portland and sharing my weekend with some of our region's most inspiring organizers and leaders.
Let the training (network and celebrating) begin!
