Dr. Sylvia Rhue

Dr. Sylvia Rhue is Director of Religious Affairs with National Black Justice Coalition.

Dr. Sylvia Rhue is Director of Religious Affairs with National Black Justice Coalition.  She is the longest serving member of the staff and was instrumental in the founding of NBJC.  Her work includes launching and developing the annual Black Church Summit, leading our LGBT faith communities and allies in creative and spiritually based challenges to religious discrimination. Her activism began with meeting Martin Luther King in 1964, and accelerated when she helped found the Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum in1988.  A native Californian, she graduated from UCLA with a Masters Degree in Social Work and received a Doctorate in Human Sexuality from the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. She is the first African American to receive this degree. Dr. Rhue is the co-producer of the award-winning film "All God's Children".
