Groundwork
Groundwork is a new project to help groups in the NW integrate and organize around reproductive justice.
Groundwork supports organizations in engaging in the fight for reproductive justice, identifying and working for policy change, and will producing new tools and curricula that help advance the reproductive justice movement. During the next 18 months, nine organizations will participate in the program, including:
- Chaya (Seattle, WA)
- National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum - Seattle Chapter
- Parents Organizing for Welfare and Economic Rights (Olympia, WA)
- African Women’s Coalition (Portland, OR)
- International Center for Traditional Childbearing (Portland, OR)
- Urban League (Portland, OR)
Each group will work on a project during this 18-month period of Groundwork; together these nine groups will form a strategic cohort that will also produce a collective project. The projects range from creating training tools and materials, conducting research and developing policy campaigns.
Groundwork is a joint project of Western States Center and EMERJ.
What is Reproductive Justice?
Reproductive Justice is a way to create solutions based on experiences of communities most affected by reproductive oppression. It lifts up voices that have been excluded in decision-making tables. It was first pioneered by women of color and women organizing outside the U.S., and is gaining traction in the U.S.
