ABOUT CSTI
Community Strategic Training Initiative
(CSTI) provides three days of intensive
training and networking for those organizing
for justice in the West. The event is designed
for leaders, staff and volunteers of organizations
who are working to address racial justice, civil rights,
immigration, gender justice, women's leadership,
electoral organizing and other critical
struggles facing our communities.
While workshops vary in educational format,
all are designed to be highly participatory
and to engage critical questions of strategy
or provide intensive skillbuilding. Trainers, drawn from around the
region and beyond, are among the most experienced
in their areas and participants are diverse
with respect to race, geography, gender,
age and experience level.
CHECKING IN AT CSTI When you arrive on campus for CSTI, look for signs that will direct you to Registration in the Gray Campus Center - Rooms B, C and D. All participants must go there first to receive a registration packet containing all the information you’ll need to participate throughout the weekend.
Registration will be open each day during the hours listed below. Those registered for on-campus lodging will also receive their dorm assignments at registration. If you will arrive after registration closes, see below to the late-arrivals for lodgers section.

CSTI DAILY SCHEDULE
Each day starts at 9:00 a.m. with the morning plenary at the outdoor Cerf Auditorium. Workshops run each day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a two-hour break for lunch. Additional activities take place throughout the weekend, including lunch-time and evening events and presentation. Refer to your on-site registration packet for details.
PAYMENT INFORMATION
All participants should have now received a participant packet with an invoice in the mail. If you requested us to bill your organization, that information will be listed under your balance due on the bottom right hand corner of your invoice and your organization will be sent an invoice with your total.
If you are paying your balance, please send a check and copy of your invoice to Western States Center/CSTI, PO Box 40305, Portland, OR 97240. You may also securely pay your bill with a credit card here.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you must cancel your registration, please contact Amanda McBeth at 503.228.8866 x109 by July 30th. Participants who cancel after the deadline or simply do not show up at CSTI will be billed for the full tuition and lodging amount. To avoid these fees you may have another member from your organization take your place and attend the workshops you signed up for.
MEALS
The Reed College cafeteria offers a wide range of options to meet your dietary needs. Lunch is included each day you attend a workshop, and we offer an extra long break so you will have a chance to network with other attendees and participate in various lunch-time meetings. Breakfast and dinner is included for participants lodging on campus. Your participant name-tag will be needed to go through the cafeteria.
LODGING
If you registered for lodging, the nights you are scheduled for are listed on your invoice. All rooms are single occupancy dorm rooms with a shared bath unless otherwise requested. Bedding and towels are included, however, you may wish to bring an alarm clock. A flashlight can be convenient when strolling around campus after dark and it can get cool in the evenings so layers are recommended. The dorms and many of the classrooms at Reed College do not have air conditioning, so be prepared for some hot days. If you have particular needs or concerns around lodging or if you need to make any changes to your lodging request, please contact Amanda right away. For those that prefer to lodge off-campus, a list of accommodations is available on Reed's website at http://web.reed.edu/apply/accommodations.html.
A $50 room key deposit upon check-in is required for each key issued, and that payment may be made with check, cash or credit card. Don't worry...we don't process the payment unless the key is lost. Your organization may put all their participant deposits on one check or credit card.
LATE ARRIVAL INFO FOR LODGERS
If possible, plan to arrive on campus during registration hours. If you expect to be arriving outside the hours above, please contact Amanda McBeth at 503.228.8866 x109 by Tuesday, July 31st in order to make arrangements to have your dorm key left for you at Greywood Campus Information & Safety. You will still need to go to registration the following morning to pick up your participant packet.
CHILD CARE AND CHILD LODGING
Quality childcare from experienced, bi-lingual providers is available during workshop hours with prior registration. We are unable to accommodate walk-in childcare requests. Our providers involve the children in recreational activities, such as games, songs, painting, crafts and outdoor activities while maintaining an environment that reflects the culture of the Center and those of the children. Childcare costs $10/day per child, and child lodging is $30 a night and includes all meals and snacks. If you need to make childcare reservations, please contact Amanda McBeth at 503.228.8866 x109.
