NEW CENTER PUBLICATION
Crossing Borders,
Crossing Barriers

A Report from the Western Institute for Organizing and Leadership Development for Immigrants and Refugees
DOWNLOAD REPORT
WILDIR Report

Crossing Borders, Crossing Barriers is Western States Center’s new report about immigrant and refugee leadership in the region. The report features the voices, stories and learning of first generation immigrant and refugee leaders in the Center’s year long program, the Western Institute for Organizing and Leadership Development for Immigrants and Refugees (WILDIR).

The report addresses these and other critical questions:

  • What is the impact of race and racism on immigrant and refugee communities in the West?
  • How does the spectrum of direct service to organizing support and/or challenge immigrant communities in building their own voice?
  • What is the relationship of funding to capacity building questions for immigrant organizations?
  • How can we address the tension created in building a movement that supports both documented and undocumented immigrants and refugees?
  • And finally, how do we build and support a strong multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee movement?

A complete copy of the report is available for download. For hard copies, please call Western States Center at (503) 228-8866.

MOIRA BOWMAN SAYS GOODBYE TO WESTERN STATES CENTER

Dear Friends,
After seven wonderful years as part of the staff of Western States Center, I have decided to transition to a new job. It is impossible to describe how much I've learned from working with so many courageous and dedicated leaders and organizations in the West. I will take these learning with me to my new position as the Movement Building Director for EMERJ (Expanding the Movement for Empowerment and Reproductive Justice) which is based out of Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice. Western States Center is a member of the EMERJ Founding Team and I will continue to live in Portland, so I am confident that I will have the opportunity to continue the relationships I have with groups in the region. Thanks for all the work that you all do.

Take care,
Moira

Moira's transition leaves an opening on the Center's Field Team. So if you, or someone you know, is an experienced organizer and trainer that wants to be part of the Western States Center team, check out the job description on our job opportunities page and apply!
