  For 20 years, Western States Center has had the pleasure of working with incredible grassroots leaders and organizations in the West working to build power for their communities and win progressive social change. The following are a few of the many progressive Alaska-based organizations working for justice.  
     
 
Progressive Organizations in Alaska
Alaska Center for the Environment - Alaska Center for the Environment is Alaska's largest home-grown citizen's group working for the sensible stewardship of Alaska's natural environment. With 7,000 dues-paying members from around the state, Alaska Center for the Environment is your voice for public lands conservation, clean air, clean water, and livable places.

Alaska Community Action Coalition on Toxics (ACAT) - ACAT is a statewide organization established in 1997 dedicated to achieving environmental health and justice. Its mission is to assure justice by advocating for environmental and community health. ACAT works to eliminate the production and release of harmful chemicals by industry and military sources; ensure community right-to-know; achieve policies based on the precautionary principle; and support the rights and sovereignty of Indigenous peoples.

Alaska Conservation Foundation - Alaska Conservation Foundation is a community foundation for the environment that receives and awards grants throughout the state to protect the integrity of Alaska's ecosystems, and to promote sustainable livelihoods for Alaska's communities and people.
Alaska Conservation Voters - Alaska Conservation Voters works to protect Alaska's environment through public education and advocacy, and supports pro-conservation candidates for public office.

Alaska Emergency Contraception Project - The mission of the Alaska Emergency Contraception Project is to educate the public and health care providers about the option of emergency contraception and to increase availability and acceptability of this contraceptive option. The Project is dedicated to reducing unintended pregnancies and maximizing reproductive health.

Alaska Pro-Choice Alliance - Alaska Pro-Choice Alliance is a statewide coalition of organizations working together to protect and promote reproductive rights and services through education, advocacy and referrals.

Alaska Public Interest Research Group - AkPIRG is a non-profit, non-partisan, citizen-oriented statewide organization researching, educating and advocating on behalf of the public interest. AkPIRG exists to promote the public and consumer interests, especially when inconsistent with monied, powerful or other special interests.

Alaska Wilderness League - The Alaska Wilderness League is a non-profit corporation founded in 1993 to further the protection of Alaska's natural endowment. The League supports legislative and administrative initiatives to protect Alaska's lands and waters, promotes national and local recognition of Alaska's spectacular environment through public education, strengthens grassroots activism on behalf of Alaska's environment, and provides leadership within the environmental community on selected issues that concern Alaska.

Alaska Women's Political Caucus - The goals of the Alaska Women's Political Caucus are to increase women's participation in the political process, to increase the number of feminist women in elected and appointed positions, to win equality for women, and to support candidates who adhere to these goals. The AWPC is dedicated to the eradication of sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, ageism, violence, poverty, discrimination against the disabled and discrimination on the basis of religion, and to ensuring reproductive freedom and freedom of sexual orientation.

Alaskans for Peace and Justice - Alaskans for Peace and Justice is a grassroots organization that promotes a world where all people are free from violence and have access to the resources necessary to fulfill their potential. APJ's mission is to increase awareness of and gain public support for nonviolent conflict resolution and global justice through education, dialogue and political action.

Southeast Alaska Conservation Council - The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC), a non-profit organization, is a coalition of 18 Southeast Alaska conservation groups.
University of Alaska, Gay and Lesbian Association - The Mission of AGLA (Alaska Gay & Lesbian Association) is to provide a supportive environment for UAF Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgendered Students, Faculty and Staff to meet and discuss issues and socialize.
