January 6 Scorecard: Analyzing Threats to Democracy

Now available!

Ahead of the third anniversary of the January 6 insurrectionist attack on the US Capitol, Western States Center released a scorecard detailing how federal, state and local government and other U.S. institutions have responded to the attack and the ongoing threats posed by anti-democracy movements.

While some progress has been made to strengthen democracy against these threats, there are many areas, from legislation to civil litigation to funding civic action, in which responses have fallen significantly short.

Schooling Bigotry is a limited series about the roles we can all play in defending democracy and confronting hate within our education system. The recommendations in these episodes are based on "Confronting White Nationalism in Schools: A Toolkit," published by Western States Center.

How did our education system become a high-stakes cultural battleground? Why would any group or organization want to target a school? In the first episode, Western States Center Fellows Adrienne van der Valk and Rae Page explore these questions by investigating three stories about schools experiencing anti-democracy organizing or bigotry.
