Guide to Solidarity (Easter 2026)

This year, the Christian celebration of Easter directly coincides with the Jewish celebration of Passover. Religious festivities begin for both communities against the backdrop of war with Iran, a rise in anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim rhetoric and violence across the globe, and a mainstreaming of Christian nationalist ideas that threaten the foundations of our pluralist democracy.

Additionally, Christian celebrations of Easter have historically contributed to moments of real peril for Jewish communities, as a significant number of churches both historically and in the present day have promoted and elaborated upon anti-Jewish interpretations of the Gospel.

So this is as good a time as ever for deep-rooted solidarity and accountability between communities. Recognizing the unique opportunity that the overlap of these two holidays presents, Western States Center is pleased to share a Guide to Solidarity with Jewish Americans, written by our Common Good program team (an interfaith effort!) for our Christian friends and partners.

Though this guide is being released to coincide with the celebration of Easter this weekend, it is intended for use beyond Resurrection Sunday, which we hope serves as a starting point for a journey of solidarity, not as the destination.
