AMP is back! Celebrating the return of the Activists Mobilizing for Power conference this October

"Truly a life-changing event that launches lifelong careers and continues to inspire and motivate for years to come.”

Portland, OR — For the first time in 5 years, Western States Center's flagship conference event AMP (Activists Mobilizing for Power) is drawing movement leaders from around the region and nationally to gather in person this October 21-23 in Portland, Oregon. AMP 2025, like the 35 conferences that precede it, will serve as a forum for grassroots organizers, social justice advocates, and anti-authoritarian movement leaders to share, learn, strategize, and strengthen networks.

“For decades, AMP has drawn an incredible array of courageous organizers sharing leading-edge analysis,” says Amy Herzfeld-Copple, Executive Director at Western States Center. “I’ll never forget attending my first AMP conference 24 years ago, which was the single most intersectional gathering I had ever experienced. It is truly a life-changing event that launches lifelong careers and continues to inspire and motivate for years to come.”

Over 300 leaders are expected to attend the 36th AMP conference to develop and hone the tools needed to counter the growing influence of anti-democracy movements, white nationalism, and authoritarianism. Portland will serve as a hub for these activists working to resist and prevent policies and attacks increasingly targeting immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities, among other groups under threat.

AMP 2025 sessions will focus on four primary themes: Narrative and Cultural Strategy, Building Broad Partnerships and Resisting Wedges, Safety Planning and Institutional Defense, and Community Organizing and Resilience. This strategic thinktank atmosphere will be balanced with joyful celebrations, local artists and performers, and collective care offerings. The deadline for submitting workshop and session proposals is August 18, and presenters will be notified by September 5.

Registration for the event is now open, with an early bird discount offered to those who register by August 22, accessible via the event website: https://www.westernstatescenter.org/amp-2025

AMP 2025 is presented by the Meyer Memorial Trust. Prospective sponsors are invited to contact Jedidiah Chavez, Director of Development, to inquire about sponsoring this year’s event: jedidiahc@wscpdx.org.
